A long term friendship

Vic and I first met 60 years ago at James Clark & Eaton (glass merchants in Blackfriars) where we were both placed in their Buying Office, and immediately became great friends. I fondly recall our lunchtime walk to a small cafe in Borough High St. where we enjoyed a very affordable meal (including chicken livers and rice - delicious!).

We both held driving licences for motor bikes but Vic went a step further acquiring a Bond Mini car and I sometimes helped by lifting the nose to turn it round (no reverse gear). However I soon took over top spot by purchasing a super sports car - the Reliant Regal 3 wheeler (similar to Only Fools and Horses), and was privileged to have Vic as my very first passenger for a rather hairy ride through Blackwall Tunnel, after all it was the first afternoon I had driven the beast.

The Company later announced the Business was being transferred to Bracknell and we both duly relocated to the area with our families - Vic and Margaret to Bracknell and ourselves to nearby Finchampstead. We remained very close friends from that time on despite myself and family moving to East Surrey when I later changed employment.

Unfortunately more recently health problems eventually reduced the ability to meet regularly and contact was only by telephone and post. I so much regret our mutual vow to "get together soon" was never achieved, but we will always remember and cherish our lasting friendship.

We love him, and like so many more, will miss him greatly.

God rest you Vic.
